Do you know someone making a real difference in our community?
The District Council of Grant are calling on residents to help recognise our district’s unsung heroes by nominating them for a 2026 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award.
The Awards celebrate individuals, groups and events that contribute to a stronger, more vibrant community through areas such as education, health, environment, business, sport, arts and community services.
District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston said it is important to acknowledge those who make a positive impact.
“The Awards are our chance to shine a spotlight on those who go above and beyond making our community a strong and vibrant place to live, work and play,” Mayor Boston said.
Nominations are open for the following categories:
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Citizen of the Year
- Community Event of the Year
- Active Citizenship
“If you know a person, group or event that has made a real difference in our community, nominating them for an Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award is a great way to recognise their efforts and say thank you.”
2025 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award recipient Jacqui Doloughan shared her gratitude and reflections on the award.
“I’m deeply honoured and very humbled to be recognised and receive the Citizen of the Year Award. I don’t do what I do for recognition,” Mrs Doloughan said.
“Volunteering within my local community gets me out and about and [it’s] an opportunity to give back to the community that has welcomed and supported me,”
“This award is a reminder of the power of community and the impact we can make when we come together with a shared purpose. It is a celebration of the countless individuals who have contributed their time, energy and resources to make our community a better place. I’m proud to be part of a community that values compassion, resilience and progress.”
Award nominees and winners will be celebrated and presented with certificates at a private event on Monday 26 January 2026.
Nominations close 5:00pm Sunday 16 November 2025. Submissions can be made online via citizenoftheyear.com.au.
