Local government elections are held every four years to determine who will represent their community on Council.
Participating in your local council election is one of the most direct ways you can make a difference to everyday life in your community. There are two ways to get involved:
- Enrol and vote in the election to choose your representatives,
- Nominate to run as a candidate in the election.
Council elections in South Australia are conducted by the Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA). Elections are managed independently to make sure they're fair, secure and transparent, and to make sure they follow relevant legislation and regulations. Council supports the election process by encouraging voter registration, providing information to the community, and complying with legislative requirements.
Changes Since Last Election
As a result of the 2024 Representation Review, Southern Limestone Coast Council will not have a ward structure going forward. Instead, Council will be composed of a Mayor and nine (9) Councillors representing the whole of the community.
Enrol to Vote
To be eligible to vote in a council election, you must be 18 years or older, an Australian citizen, and correctly enrolled on the electoral roll for the council area in which you reside. In some cases, property owners, business owners and organisations may also be eligible to enrol and vote.
If you are already enrolled on the South Australian electoral roll at an address in District Council of Grant, you are automatically registered to vote in council elections. If you are unsure, you can check your enrolment status here.
In addition to the South Australian electoral roll, Council compiles a supplemental roll for voters who are eligible under a different category, such as property owners, business owners and bodies corporate, and group owners. Even if you have applied to be on this supplemental roll at prior elections, the details do not rollover and you must reapply to be eligible.
- To apply as a non-resident sole property owner, fill out Form 1.
- To apply as a business or body corporate, fill out Form 2.
- To apply as a group owner, fill out Form 3.
Please note that businesses and groups must nominate one individual to vote on behalf of the entity, and that representative cannot already be eligible to vote on the State electoral roll. For further information on eligibility criteria under any of the above categories, please visit the Council Elections website.
Applications must be completed, witnessed and returned by close of roll on Friday 4 January 2027 to be eligible to vote.
