Council is taking part in National Volunteer Week by hosting its annual Volunteers Morning Tea on Wednesday 20 May 2026.

Volunteers from sporting clubs, school groups, community organisations and more are invited to attend the free event at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex from 10:30am to 12:00pm. For those travelling from Tarpeena through to Port MacDonnell, a return bus service is running on the day.

The longstanding event is an opportunity to connect with others, share stories, and recognise the contributions that volunteers make to our community.

District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston extended a heartfelt thank you to everyone who gives their time, passion and effort across the district.

“From events that bring the region together to emergency services keeping us safe, volunteers are at the heart of our community. Their contributions make the district a welcoming, vibrant and resilient place to live and work,” Mayor Boston said.

“I encourage anyone who volunteers in our Council area to join us at the Volunteers Morning Tea to share a bite to eat and enjoy a moment of celebration.”

District Council of Grant’s 2026 Citizen of the Year Cary Jennings reflected that he has been a volunteer for over forty years, with leadership roles across BMX and the Borderline Speedway.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Volunteering has let me meet so many people and I’ve had opportunities I never would have expected. Volunteering has taken me all over the country, and all over the world as a representative for Australia,” Mr Jennings said.

“I’d encourage everyone to give it a shot”.
