The Southern Limestone Coast Council has awarded five hardworking students across the district with financial support as part of Council’s Academic Scholarship program.
The $750 scholarships are awarded annually to recognise the achievements of Year 10 to Year 12 students residing in the Council area and studying at Allendale East Area School or in Mount Gambier. The scholarships celebrate students’ strong commitment to school values, exemplary attendance, and intention to pursue tertiary education.
Southern Limestone Coast Council Mayor Kylie Boston said Council is pleased to encourage young people in the district seeking to further their studies.
“Council is proud to recognise the dedication of these outstanding students and help them take the next steps towards their education and career goals. It’s important that we invest in our young people as the next generation of leaders to help them follow their aspirations,” Mayor Boston said.
“On behalf of Council, I extend my congratulations to all the 2026 scholarship recipients and wish them success on their academic journeys going forward.”
The 2026 recipients of Council’s Academic Scholarship Awards are:
- Kanisha Miller from Allendale East Area School,
- Kelsie Anderson from Mount Gambier High School,
- Matilda Clark from Grant High School,
- Evan Clark from St Martins Lutheran College, and
- Bonny de Nys from Tenison Woods College.
Principal of Mount Gambier High School Kym Grant said the scholarship program makes a real impact for regional students who face additional barriers to continuing their education.
“Scholarships are vital to supporting our public school students to reach further and achieve outcomes that may be previously beyond capability. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from the Southern Limestone Coast Council, whose generous scholarships have helped many of our MGHS students achieve their academic goals,” Mr Grant said.
Scholarship recipient Kelsie Anderson expressed her appreciation of the financial support from the scholarship, which will aid her in taking the next steps when she finishes Year 12 at the end of this year.
“I will be going to university and studying physiotherapy. The funds received from the scholarship will greatly help with moving interstate, and support my accommodation away from home,” Miss Anderson said.
“This will give me the opportunity to study at a tertiary level and, as a regional student, gives me more opportunities to succeed.”
