The District Council of Grant is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Button as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Councillors endorsed the recommendation of the CEO Recruitment, Performance and Remuneration Selection Panel to appoint Mr Button at a Special Council Meeting on Monday night, following an extensive and competitive recruitment process.
Mr Button brings a strong understanding of the District Council of Grant, having served as Acting Chief Executive Officer since the resignation of former CEO Darryl Whicker in February 2026, as well as on numerous occasions covering CEO annual leave. In addition, he has held the role of Director of Corporate Services and Community, providing him with broad organisational knowledge and a deep appreciation of the district and its communities.
Mayor Kylie Boston welcomed Mr Button’s appointment, describing it as a positive and confident step forward for the organisation.
“This is a fantastic result for Council and for our community,” Mayor Boston said. “Gary has demonstrated strong leadership during his time as Acting CEO, guiding the organisation with stability, professionalism and a clear focus on our strategic priorities.”
“His extensive experience, collaborative leadership style and commitment to community‑driven outcomes align strongly with Council’s values and aspirations.”
Mayor Boston said the appointment comes at an important time for the district, with Elected Members looking forward to working closely with Mr Button to continue delivering Council’s Strategic Plan and achieving its long-term objectives.
“This is an exciting time for our district, with several major projects underway, including the Saleyards Transformation Project,” she said. “Gary brings energy, insight and continuity to the role. He is well placed to build on the momentum already underway and deliver positive outcomes for our district now and into the future.”
Mr Button will officially commence as Chief Executive Officer of the District Council of Grant on the 30th March 2026.
