The District Council of Grant as owner-operator of the Mount Gambier Regional Airport has expressed disappointment following the announcement that Qantas will temporarily cease its services to our region.

While Council recognises the inconvenience this decision may cause for residents, businesses and visitors, it understands the significant fuel and operational pressures currently being faced by the aviation industry. Council acknowledges Qantas’ decision to prioritise capacity across major population centres during this period and remains open to Qantas resuming services to Mount Gambier when conditions allow.

“We have previously engaged constructively with Qantas to consider more viable route options for the Limestone Coast, and will continue to advocate to assist with improving passenger numbers” said District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston.

“Council is confident in the long‑term vision set out in the Mount Gambier Regional Airport Masterplan and we remain committed to advocating for increased aviation and transport services to support the growth and connectivity of our region.”

“Council will work with aviation partners, government and industry stakeholders to pursue sustainable and reliable air services for the benefit of the community.”

The Mount Gambier Regional Airport is still serviced by Regional Express (Rex), ensuring Mount Gambier and the region remains accessible and connected. The Limestone Coast continues to be a destination of choice for travellers, offering strong tourism appeal and regional opportunities.
