After a collective agreement to share the District Council of Grant Deputy Mayor position during the current standing term, Council has appointed Cr Bruce Bain to the role.
A greater opportunity for collaboration and development was identified by the Elected Members to share the Deputy Mayor position amongst the group. Subsequently, in February 2023 Council’s Elected Members resolved that those appointed in the role would stand for a term of one year only, with the current incumbent ineligible for re-nomination in the term immediately after.
At the January 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting, Councillor Megan Dukalskis had fulfilled her duty of Deputy Mayor and was recognised for her contributions and support of Mayor Kylie Boston over the past year. Councillor Bruce Bain was then appointed as Council’s newest Deputy Mayor.
Mayor Kylie Boston said she is pleased that the Elected Member group have been supportive of sharing the position.
“Once again, it was terrific to see multiple Elected Members show a keen interest and put their hands up for the Deputy Mayor role. I am excited to work alongside Councillor Bruce Bain over the next 12 months and congratulate him on the appointment.” Mayor Boston said.
The selection will see Councillor Bruce Bain work more closely with Mayor Kylie Boston and temporarily act as Mayor in periods of absence or as required at civic/ceremonial events.
Councillor Bruce Bain said he is excited to be given the opportunity to act in the role as District Council of Grant Deputy Mayor.
“I thank my fellow Elected Members for sharing this opportunity. I look forward to supporting Mayor Kylie Boston wherever the opportunity arises and serving our community in this new role,” Cr Bain said.
“I would also like to extend my thanks to Cr Megan Dukalskis for her work as Deputy Mayor over the past 12 months.”
Councillor Bruce Bain has been a committed District Council of Grant Elected Member since 2003 and is currently a representative on Council’s Awards Advisory Group.
Councillor Bain will hold the position of Deputy Mayor until January 2025.
