The District Council of Grant is inviting volunteers from across the district to attend their annual Volunteers Morning Tea on Wednesday 21 May 2025.
The event coincides with National Volunteer Week, Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering, and is an opportunity to thank and celebrate the selfless contributions of volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to making the community a better place.
District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston expressed her appreciation for the work of local volunteers.
“Our community simply wouldn’t be the same without our volunteers. Every action makes a meaningful difference, whether it’s coaching sport, helping at community events or serving on a committee,” Mayor Boston said.
“I have had the privilege of working alongside some of our dedicated individuals in our community over the years. Working behind the scenes with these people has amplified how lucky we are to have such committed groups of fabulous volunteers who work tirelessly to better our community,”
“Volunteers don't ask to be commended for their work but we want to use National Volunteer Week to make sure our volunteers know they are appreciated,”
Council’s Volunteers Morning Tea will be held Wednesday 21 May 2025 between 10:30am and 12:00pm at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex.
Volunteers from any organisation, sporting club, school or community group in the Council area are invited to attend for light refreshments, an opportunity to connect with other volunteers and listen to guest speakers.
Dedicated local volunteer and 2025 Citizen of the Year Award recipient Jacqui Doloughan said her involvement with volunteering started out simply as an opportunity to meet new people.
“Fourteen years later I’m still meeting new people… I enjoy working with others to strengthen and support our local community, and to give our local community members a supportive and welcoming space to come together,” Mrs Doloughan said.
“I don’t do what I do for recognition. Volunteering within my local community gets me out and about and [it’s] an opportunity to give back to the community that has welcomed and supported me. I’m proud to be part of a community that values compassion, resilience and progress.”
RSVP’s are essential for attendees by Sunday 18 May 2025 and can be made by:
- Visiting the friendly Community Complex staff at 5-7 Charles Street, Port MacDonnell;
- Calling on (08) 8738 3000; or
- Emailing pmcc@dcgrant.sa.gov.au.
Free transportation is available for volunteers residing in Tarpeena.
“We invite all volunteers in our community to take a break and celebrate with us, and I encourage everyone to thank the dedicated volunteers working around you," Mayor Boston added.
