Amalgamation Plebiscite

How to vote in Council Elections

ECSA have created an easy to read guide on how to vote in the 2022 Council Elections. A copy can be viewed HERE.

Local Government Association Community Information Sessions

To ensure the community is informed on the process of the Plebiscite being a simple majority vote and the approach following the vote, the Local Government Association (LGA) of South Australia facilitated two in-person community information sessions and one online.

The LGA covered what you will receive in your voting pack and how to have your say, and what will occur if the vote to investigate the amalgamation of the councils is supported. A copy of the presentation can be viewed HERE.

Ballot Packs - Amalgamation Plebiscite Vote

A separate ballot paper will be included in the 2022 Council Elections ballot pack that voters will receive from Friday 14 October to Thursday 20 October. The ballot will ask the following question whereby voters can choose to answer yes or no:

“Do you support the examination of an amalgamation of the District Council of Grant and the City of Mount Gambier to form a single council?”

If you are enrolled to vote in the upcoming District Council of Grant Council Election, you will automatically be eligible to vote in the Amalgamation Plebiscite to have your say on whether the District Council of Grant and City of Mount Gambier Councils should be merged.

More information about the plebiscite can be found on the Electoral Commission of South Australia's (ECSA) website -  https://www.ecsa.sa.gov.au/elections/council-elections/plebiscite
